16th Anniversary Issue!

As I enter my 17th year of eBulletins, I’m in a reflective mood.

2025 has been the year in which I completed 50 years of working and celebrated my 70th birthday. That makes my 30+ years in the ergonomics and wellbeing sector look like a bit of a flash in the pan! (And as I write that, I realise that such a phrase will probably mean nothing to any Millennial or Centennial readers!)

It’s fair to say I’ve seen a recession or two and observed the peaks and troughs of business but I have never known a period when the global geopolitical landscape was so unstable. Despite this, we’ve launched new products and services this year, run some brilliant face-to-face events, participated in some exciting discussions and rebranded as Osmond Ergonomics & Wellbeing to clearly define our perspective, as well as broadening our portfolio and reach.

The big change in business has been the ubiquitous appearance of AI. As it expands into every aspect of our daily lives, we use it more and more within the company, but only to enhance human output, never to replace it. I believe this is how AI is best utilised. I continue to write my own eBulletins, blogs and articles. Indeed, Grammarly informed me this week that, since I started using the tool in April 2024, it has analysed over 3,500,000 words. And I wrote them all myself!

Taking into account that we created one of the earliest websites, were one of the first in the industry to use social media, have (probably) the longest-standing and consistently published monthly newsletter and the number of people and organisations who come to me for an opinion, I estimate that I have created something in excess of 60,000,000 words during my ergonomics and wellbeing career!

Chair Offer

At this time of year, we always receive enquiries about homeworker chairs as gifts and you may be surprised to know that not everyone has a four-figure budget! Prompt Too is a new product that provides optimum performance, quality & value and there is still time to get pre-Christmas delivery. For a healthy subscriber discount, click here and use code PMPT15%TOO at checkout.

First 2026 Event

Our next event is being planned and, for maximum reach, this one will be virtual. Expect a two-hour session in late February offering a complete perspective of the past, present and future of workplace design with some key actions you can take immediately. The date and speakers will be confirmed very soon, hopefully before the year end.

Surprising Statistics

As previewed last month, I took part in the Occupational Health Assessment Ltd webinar at the beginning of December. The polls in my session produced some interesting insights! Amongst these, just over 50% of delegates’ organisations provide ergonomics equipment without any training and nearly 30% said their legacy DSE process needed review and update. Expect to see more from us about this soon.

Year End Shutdown

Please note that we shall be closed from 12:30 on Wednesday 24.12.25 until 09:00 on Monday 05.01.26. Our order cut-off for pre-Christmas despatch of stock items is Close of Business on Friday 19.12.25.

Thank you for your interest and support during 2025 and we wish you a joyful and relaxing Christmas and New Year break.

Ergonomics Live: How a Floor Walk Delivered Immediate Impact

The Challenge

A technical team operates in a highly controlled indoor environment, undertaking a combination of intensive screen work and physical tasks involving delicate materials.

Despite having adjustable desks, ergonomic seating, regular DSE assessments and manual handling training, management wanted an independent review to ensure that workstation setups and working habits had not drifted over time.

Our Approach

Osmond Ergonomics & Wellbeing delivered a half-day Ergonomics in Practice Floor Walk, combining:

  • A practical workshop on posture, fatigue and workstation setup
  • One-to-one workstation reviews carried out in the live working environment

Advice was tailored to the team’s specialist equipment, space limitations and physical demands.

The Impact

Out of 14 staff, approximately 50% of workstations were adjusted on the day.

These small but critical changes, including chair height, screen position, and input device placement, immediately reduced strain and improved comfort. The session also refreshed awareness of good working habits, helping prevent the slow return of poor posture that leads to musculoskeletal issues.

Client Feedback

“The session was perfectly pitched for the team. The preparation beforehand made it highly relevant, which is why the team were so engaged.”

Why This Matters

Even in well-managed workplaces, ergonomic drift is common. A simple floor walk delivers quick, measurable improvements that protect wellbeing, reduce injury risk, and boost productivity.

As many services move towards virtual delivery for speed and convenience, this case also highlights the enduring value of being physically present in the working environment. Observing people at work and providing live, individualised feedback allows for nuanced, practical adjustments that simply cannot be replicated remotely.

That’s what makes our floor walking service so valuable and impactful for both individuals and organisations.
