Osmond Ergonomics & Wellbeing eBulletin: November 2025

Some things don’t change

We are in the process of relocating our warehouse (more information next month) and that, of course, means a lot of cupboard clearing. Amongst the telephone directories, Windows 2007 CDs and 25-year-old delivery notes, we unearthed a selection of old catalogues. Aside from reminding us that we also have a spiral-binder buried in a cupboard somewhere, it was fascinating to flick through the product selections: some forgotten but many with their 2025 ancestors featuring in our current portfolio.

Also significant was our message over the last three decades. It has evolved during that time but the core content has been consistent throughout. In particular, the Good Ergonomics is Good Business strapline still resonates today. For many reasons, including benign neglect, inconsistent hybrid policies, neglected DSE assessments and silent sufferers, I am certain there are millions of homeworkers without proper ergonomics provision. That is undoubtedly a cause of musculoskeletal issues, presenteeism and reduced productivity. All of which present a strong business case for consistent ergonomics support and proper equipment for all personnel.

Free OH & HR Webinar

Occupational Health Assessment’s next webinar is on Tuesday December 2nd. There’s no charge and the two hour session covers a range of important topics for Occupational Health, Health & Safety and HR professionals. I’m speaking about AOP, alongside three other topic specialists. Expect a fast-paced information-rich session! Register here.

CSP Conference

Stuart and I will be in Cardiff on November 21st for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Annual Conference. We are supporting Lasse Flosand and Cristien Bird’s workshop about Pelvic Health and showing the CoreChair Elite, which is exceptionally effective for pelvic pain issues.

VELA Chairs

We have been selling VELA products for a while but you may have seen our active promotion in recent social media. The chairs represent an interesting departure for us because almost every one we sell is for the domestic use of an elderly person – a big change from the workplace! If you have a parent or loved one with mobility issues at home, contact us for more info.

Price Increases

It’s that time of year and, with the general state of global economic turmoil, New Year increases are inevitable. We are seeing projected rises of between 2.5% and 4% from January. There is still time to place year-end orders and benefit from current pricing. Just ask us to quote!

Ergonomics Live: How a Floor Walk Delivered Immediate Impact

The Challenge

A technical team operates in a highly controlled indoor environment, undertaking a combination of intensive screen work and physical tasks involving delicate materials.

Despite having adjustable desks, ergonomic seating, regular DSE assessments and manual handling training, management wanted an independent review to ensure that workstation setups and working habits had not drifted over time.

Our Approach

Osmond Ergonomics & Wellbeing delivered a half-day Ergonomics in Practice Floor Walk, combining:

  • A practical workshop on posture, fatigue and workstation setup
  • One-to-one workstation reviews carried out in the live working environment

Advice was tailored to the team’s specialist equipment, space limitations and physical demands.

The Impact

Out of 14 staff, approximately 50% of workstations were adjusted on the day.

These small but critical changes, including chair height, screen position, and input device placement, immediately reduced strain and improved comfort. The session also refreshed awareness of good working habits, helping prevent the slow return of poor posture that leads to musculoskeletal issues.

Client Feedback

“The session was perfectly pitched for the team. The preparation beforehand made it highly relevant, which is why the team were so engaged.”

Why This Matters

Even in well-managed workplaces, ergonomic drift is common. A simple floor walk delivers quick, measurable improvements that protect wellbeing, reduce injury risk, and boost productivity.

As many services move towards virtual delivery for speed and convenience, this case also highlights the enduring value of being physically present in the working environment. Observing people at work and providing live, individualised feedback allows for nuanced, practical adjustments that simply cannot be replicated remotely.

That’s what makes our floor walking service so valuable and impactful for both individuals and organisations.
