Osmond Ergonomics & Wellbeing eBulletin: May 2025

This article was originally emailed as issue 186 of our monthly eBulletin at 11:30 on 13/05/2025. You can register here to receive them monthly.

New Brand – New Logo – New Look…

As you can see, there have been a few cosmetic changes to this eBulletin. They reflect the new, inclusive branding and the consolidation of all our activities into the established ergonomics.co.uk website. With the growth in demand for our diversity & inclusion support, it was logical to provide a single platform for everything we do. We have therefore merged all the key content from our former Inclusive Wellbeing Services site and increased the information and resources available in one place. The product store is still there so you can now find everything from a mouse to an office fit-out to co-coaching and EDI strategy all at a single location! Please tell me what you think.

Next In-Person London Event

Following the significant success of our two March events in London, we have now scheduled our next quarterly fixture. It will take place at the new Orangebox London showroom on Wednesday June 18th. I am very excited about the two speakers! It really is a bit of a coup to get them both at one of our events. Check out their profiles and the agenda here – and then book early whilst we still have space. It’s free!

Most Popular Podcast

The May edition (Episode 16) is proving our most popular topic so far. In the first week it was heard by double the usual number of listeners and it’s climbing rapidly up the leader board. Entitled ‘Didn’t I just say that?’, we explored workplace communications and, in particular, how women are not heard – or are just ignored. Paige Hodsman outlined the research she is doing with Dr Nigel Oseland and I found her discoveries a revelation. Find out for yourself here.

Boost Your Workplace Wellbeing

I mentioned our new floor walk service back in February. Since then, the package has evolved in response to customer demand. The floor walk is now part of a half- or full-day package that includes a mix of workshops and one-to-ones as well. This is an ideal added-value ergonomics service that occupational health companies can offer clients – or an effective event you can organise easily through your own employer. 50 Years of Full-Time Work

You may have seen on social media that I celebrated 50 years of working on May 1st. Many people assume I have been active in the workplace wellbeing and ergonomics arena for all my working life but this is far from true. I’ve only been doing that for about 30 years! I’ve taken time to reflect on my career and written a blog about my various business interests going back to childhood. If you’re tempted by a trip down memory lane, it’s here on LinkedIn or here on our website.

Ergonomics Live: How a Floor Walk Delivered Immediate Impact

The Challenge

A technical team operates in a highly controlled indoor environment, undertaking a combination of intensive screen work and physical tasks involving delicate materials.

Despite having adjustable desks, ergonomic seating, regular DSE assessments and manual handling training, management wanted an independent review to ensure that workstation setups and working habits had not drifted over time.

Our Approach

Osmond Ergonomics & Wellbeing delivered a half-day Ergonomics in Practice Floor Walk, combining:

  • A practical workshop on posture, fatigue and workstation setup
  • One-to-one workstation reviews carried out in the live working environment

Advice was tailored to the team’s specialist equipment, space limitations and physical demands.

The Impact

Out of 14 staff, approximately 50% of workstations were adjusted on the day.

These small but critical changes, including chair height, screen position, and input device placement, immediately reduced strain and improved comfort. The session also refreshed awareness of good working habits, helping prevent the slow return of poor posture that leads to musculoskeletal issues.

Client Feedback

“The session was perfectly pitched for the team. The preparation beforehand made it highly relevant, which is why the team were so engaged.”

Why This Matters

Even in well-managed workplaces, ergonomic drift is common. A simple floor walk delivers quick, measurable improvements that protect wellbeing, reduce injury risk, and boost productivity.

As many services move towards virtual delivery for speed and convenience, this case also highlights the enduring value of being physically present in the working environment. Observing people at work and providing live, individualised feedback allows for nuanced, practical adjustments that simply cannot be replicated remotely.

That’s what makes our floor walking service so valuable and impactful for both individuals and organisations.
